Annie Andrews

01

Annie Andrews supports “access to confidential” abortion for “adolescents,” and opposes parental-consent laws.

After the Dobbs decision, Annie Andrews re-tweeted a medical group’s policy statement opposing parental notification requirements for “adolescents” seeking an abortion. The group’s position is that even laws that allow a “judicial bypass” in exceptional cases are too restrictive.

Andrews thinks it’s “tyrannical” to prohibit elective abortion in the second and third trimesters.

When Senator Lindsey Graham proposed banning elective abortions after 15 weeks, when the baby can feel pain, Annie Andrews flipped out, calling it “tyrannical, anti-science, [and] anti-woman.” The bill had exceptions in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.

03

Andrews once said that “we shouldn’t write into law banning third-trimester abortions”

Annie Andrews has repeatedly expressed opposition to banning late-term elective abortions, even though she also claims they don’t happen. Abortion groups, including some of those supporting Andrews, confirm that late abortions happen for a wide variety of non-medical reasons. Elsewhere, Andrews said that even state laws regulating late-term abortion under Roe v. Wade have “all been misguided because there is no magic number of weeks.”

Annie Andrews supports packing the Supreme Court and supports ending the filibuster to legalize abortion-on-demand nationwide.

Andrews has said Congress needs to get rid of the filibuster in order to pass a law legalizing abortion-on-demand nationwide in the sixth month or later. Separately, Andrews expressed support for “expanding” the Supreme Court by packing it with ideological allies.

05

Andrews says she supports abortion partly because she used to work around sick newborns.

Andrews once said she was pro-abortion in part because of her work in a neonatal intensive care unit.

Jermaine Johnson

The record

Jermaine Johnson

01

Jermaine Johnson tried to legalize elective abortions in the sixth month of pregnancy or beyond.

Johnson co-sponsored a bill that would have legalized abortion-on-demand in South Carolina until at least 24 weeks of pregnancy and created legal loopholes allowing abortion even later under extremely broad circumstances. 24 weeks is well past the point when the baby can hear, suck his or her thumb, and feel pain.

02

Johnson says people trying to pass protections for unborn babies “hate women” and “there’s really no other explanation for it.”

Johnson argues that politicians shouldn’t limit abortion, and that they’re hateful if they try. He argues it’s insane to think that any unborn babies are people, because, if they’re people, why don’t they have Social Security cards? (Seriously.)

03

Johnson tried to mandate coverage of elective abortion in health insurance plans.

Under the bill Johnson co-sponsored, insurance plans that cover maternity care would be required to cover elective abortions too.
